Monday April 28: Depart for Charleston, SC this morning. Upon arrival in the Low Country meet your tour director and motorcoach. Check into your hotel for the next two nights. Tonight enjoy dinner at A W Shucks. (D)


Tuesday, April 29:  Meet your local guide for a tour of one of America*s most historic cities. Sights in Charleston include Four Corners of Law, the Citadel, Rainbow Row, Old Customs House, the Ca lhoun House and the beautiful stately mansions of the Battery. You will also tour the Manigault Home. Later take a cruise through Charleston Harbor to visit Ft. Sumter. It was here the first shots were fired in April 1861 to start the Civil War.  Time is available to stroll through the Old City Market. Dinner tonight will be at Poogan*s Porch. (B,D)


Wednesday, April 30:  Depart Charleston to visit one of the great plantation homes on River Road. Magnolia Plantation was acquired in 1676 by the Drayton family, whose heirs still own and manage it. The 60 acre garden was established in 1680 and is one of the oldest in America. The garden features 900 varieties of camellias, 250 types of azaleas and hundreds of other flowering species. The plantation house was built in Greek revival style and depicts life from the Civil War. After your tour, continue south through the low country to Savannah, GA. Check into your Savannah hotel for the night. To night enjoy dinner at the Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. (B,D)


Thursday, May 1: Today your local guide provides a unique look at one of the South's most famous cities. Savannah is known for its   beautiful and stately squares as well as its remarkable homes. Sights along the way include Telfair Cemetery, Juliet Gordon Low Home, Factor*s Walk, Cathedral of St. John, Chatham Artillery, Waving Girl Statue, River Street, Forsyth Park and more. Later tour the Green Meldrim Home. Built in the 1850*s, the house served as the personal headquarters of General William Sherman during his 1864 Civil War occupation of the city. Travel to the Golden Isles of Georgia. A guided tour of Jekyll Island features remains of homes once owned by some of the wealthiest families in America. Check into your Jekyll Island hotel for the evening before dinner at the Jekyll Island Club. (B,D)


Friday, May 2:  Depart Jekyll Island and

travel west t o Maco n, GA. A brief tour of

Macon features Mercer College, the Old

Opera House and the Old Depot. You will

also tour the elaborate Hay House.

This home was built as a wedding present in

1855 and was equipped with every modern

convenience available. You will also visit the

Cannonball House. Check into your hotel for the evening. This evening dine at Michael's on Mulberry. (B,D)


Saturday, May 3:  Travel north to Atlanta. Stop and visit Stone Mountain. Often called the Mount Rushmore of the South, it features carvings of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis. Tickets are provided to ride the cable car to the top of one of the largest granite outcroppings in the world. You will also tour the antebellum plantation at Stone Mountain. Continue on to Atlanta and visit the Cyclorama. This circular painting depicts the Battle of Atlanta in stunning detail. Check into your hotel for the next two nights. Sunday, May 4:  Meet your local guide for a tour of the (Springtime in Dixie contd.) "Phoenix of the South". Atlanta is often called the economic engine of the New South. It combines its history and business into a world-class city. Sights along the way include the Georgia State Capitol, Martin Luther King Jr. historic site, Turner Field, Grant Park, Fox Theater, Coca-Cola Headquarters, Underground Atlanta and more. Later tour the home of author Margaret Mitchell. It was here she wrote her dramatic novel "Gone with the Wind". Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner at Pitty Pat's. (B,D)


Monday, May 5:  Transfer to the Atlanta airport for your flight to Oregon. Upon arrival your Springtime in Dixie Tour will conclude. (B)
